Teresa Wang likes cats.
She is a current MFA Furniture Design candidate at Rhode Island School of Design and a graduate of the BFA in Product Design at Parsons School of Design, with a minor in Art and Design History, based in New York. Wang blends her philosophical outlook with her artistic talents to create unique and thought-provoking designs.
Her philosophical perspectives sometimes inform her designs, challenging the notion that objects hold inherent value and instead exploring their relative significance. Teresa is versatile in her craft, creating furniture, lighting objects, and jewelry, and is always looking to explore new avenues in her work. She finds inspiration in the natural world and its inherent rhythms, as well as in the emotions and sensory experiences that are a part of daily life. Wang strives to create designs that are not just aesthetically pleasing but also evoke a sense of connection to the world around us.
Her design process is rooted in a deep exploration of textures, sounds, emotions, patterns, and abstract forms. This immersion allows her to create designs that are an extension of her inner self. The duality of metal particularly appeals to Teresa, as it embodies the qualities she values: malleability in the creative process and strength in the finished product. This is reflected in her work, which often blends mystical and industrial themes.
